Choosing Your Skincare

Choosing non-toxic skincare can feel overwhelming when labels are filled with complex chemical names.

The key is to move away from "marketing fluff" and focus on the actual data on the back of the bottle.

Here are a few quick tips to help you transition to a cleaner routine:

1. Learn the "Big Offenders"

You don't need to be a chemist, but memorizing a few red-flag ingredients can help you filter out 80% of toxic products instantly:

  • Parabens: Often listed as methyl-, butyl-, or propylparaben. They are linked to hormone disruption.
  • Phthalates: Usually hidden under the word "Fragrance" or "Parfum." These can interfere with the endocrine system.
  • Sulfates (SLS/SLES): Harsh foaming agents that strip the skin’s natural barrier.
  • Formaldehyde Releasers: Look for names like DMDM hydantoin or Imidazolidinyl urea.

2. Decode the "Fragrance" Loophole

In many regions, companies aren't required to disclose the specific chemicals used to create a scent. A single "Fragrance" label can hide hundreds of synthetic compounds.

Tip: Look for products labeled "Fragrance-Free" or those that use 100% natural ingredients. At Kind Essentials we only use Essential Oils for scent.

3. Check the Order of Ingredients

Ingredients are listed in order of concentration. If the "hero" ingredient (like Vitamin C or Aloe) is at the very bottom of a long list of chemicals, there isn't enough of it to truly benefit your skin.

Tip: Aim for shorter ingredient lists. If you can’t pronounce the first five ingredients, proceed with caution.
